What is my screen resolution?

Your screen resolution, browser window size and device pixel ratio are shown below as your browser reports them — the numbers web developers, support agents and sizing guides ask for, and one small part of what websites can read about your device.

Screen resolution

1920 × 1080

In CSS pixels, as your browser reports it. The physical pixel count follows from the pixel ratio.

Your screen resolution

Screen resolution is the full display in CSS pixels (screen.width × screen.height), which on high-density screens is smaller than the physical pixel count; the physical count is shown alongside using the pixel ratio. Multi-monitor setups report the screen the browser window is on.

1920x1080 and other common sizes

1920×1080 (Full HD) remains the most common desktop resolution; 2560×1440 (QHD) and 3840×2160 (4K) follow on larger monitors; laptops commonly use 1366×768, 1536×864 (a scaled 1920×1080) and 1440×900; phones report CSS sizes around 360–430 wide regardless of their physical pixels.

Change resolution on Windows / Mac

Windows: Settings › System › Display › Display resolution (and Scale, which changes the CSS size without changing the physical resolution). Mac: System Settings › Displays › choose a scaled size. Use the display's native resolution for sharpness and adjust scaling instead.

Browser window size

The browser window's inner size (window.innerWidth × innerHeight) is what web pages are actually laid out in — smaller than the screen by the browser's toolbars and whatever is not maximized. Responsive designs switch layouts at window widths, not screen sizes, which is why resizing the window changes a page. The numbers update live as you resize.

Device pixel ratio

The device pixel ratio is how many physical pixels make up one CSS pixel: 1 on standard monitors, 2 on Retina and most phones, 1.25–1.75 on scaled Windows laptops, 3 and above on high-end phones. Browsers use it to pick sharper images; sites can read it, and together with the screen size it contributes a few bits to your browser fingerprint.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tell what my screen resolution is?

It is shown at the top of this page as your browser reports it. In the system: Windows Settings › System › Display; Mac System Settings › Displays; phones in Settings › Display (or About).

How do I tell if my monitor is 1080p or 720p?

Check the resolution above or in your display settings: 1920×1080 is 1080p, 1280×720 is 720p. A monitor's native resolution is also printed in its specifications and usually in its on-screen menu.

What size is 1920x1080 resolution?

1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels tall — about 2.07 million pixels, the Full HD standard with a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Where to find screen resolution on Android?

Open this page in the phone's browser for the CSS size and pixel ratio; the physical resolution is under Settings › Display (or About phone › Display) on most Android phones, or in the manufacturer's specifications.

How can I check my Display Resolution?

Windows: right-click the desktop › Display settings. Mac: System Settings › Displays. Linux: the display settings of your desktop environment. Or read it from this page.

What are the different resolution sizes available?

Common ones are 1280×720 (HD), 1366×768, 1920×1080 (Full HD), 2560×1440 (QHD), 3440×1440 (ultrawide), 3840×2160 (4K) and 5120×2880 (5K); phones use hundreds of different physical sizes but report similar CSS widths.

Read in your browser from screen, window, visualViewport, devicePixelRatio and matchMedia; the refresh rate is estimated from frame timings over about a second. Values update live when you resize, rotate or zoom. Nothing is sent to a server.
