Cookie policy
CheckMyIP works without cookies. This page lists the few things we store in your browser, why, and how to clear them. Last updated 2026-10-21.
Essential cookies
One first-party cookie, set only when you make the corresponding choice: lang_pref remembers the language you selected in the switcher, or that you dismissed the language suggestion (one year, so the suggestion bar stops asking). It contains no identifier and is sent to no one but our own site. Your light or dark theme choice is kept in the browser's local storage, which never leaves your device. The tools also use short-lived browser storage during a test (for example to keep a leak-test session id for ten minutes, or your last result for the offline page); it is cleared when the test ends or when you clear site data.
Analytics
Usage statistics are collected without cookies, without local storage and without a persistent identifier: the page reports the page name, your country (from the connection, at country level), language, device class and referrer, which are counted per day. There is nothing to opt out of because nothing identifies you. Should we ever add a third-party analytics service, this section will name it and the consent bar will ask first.
Advertising (if enabled)
The site is designed with fixed advertising slots so that pages never shift when an ad loads. At the time of writing no advertising network is active. If one is enabled, it may set cookies or use similar technologies to measure impressions and, depending on your choice, to personalize ads; this section will then list the network, the cookies it sets and their lifetimes, and the consent bar will offer a non-personalised option. We will never run advertising that pretends to be a test result.
Managing cookies
You can delete or block cookies in your browser's settings at any time; the site keeps working, you just have to pick your language and theme again on each visit. Every major browser lets you clear site data for a single site: in Chrome, Edge and Firefox through the padlock or page-info icon in the address bar, in Safari under Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data. Questions: the contact page or the privacy policy.
