About CheckMyIP

CheckMyIP is a free set of IP address and privacy tools: see your public address, check any address, test a VPN for leaks, check ports and blocklists. Every result names its source and how fresh it is, and we do not keep your address.

Our story

The domain checkmyip.com has answered the question what is my IP address? since 2003, when the first version went online with a handful of PHP tools. In 2026 the domain changed hands and the site was rebuilt from the ground up by a small team of network engineers and writers: new infrastructure, new tests, a new design, and one rule that did not exist before — every number on the site must say where it came from and when it was last updated. The old addresses still work and redirect to their modern equivalents. We are a small, privately funded team; there are no investors and no data business behind the site. The site is operated by StradaProxy LLC; the team can be reached through the contact page.

How our tools work

Your public address is read from the connection itself at our edge and written into the page before it reaches you, so it is there the moment the page loads. Everything that needs to see your real network path — the DNS leak test, the WebRTC test, the IPv6 and port checks — runs against our own test server rather than a third party's: our own authoritative DNS zone, our own STUN server, our own IPv4-only and IPv6-only hostnames. Lookups of any address combine several geolocation databases, the live BGP routing table and the regional registries' RDAP services, and show the sources side by side with their update dates instead of blending them into one number. The methodology page describes each test in detail.

Data sources

We use published data under its published terms and credit it on every page where it appears: geolocation from DB-IP (IP to City Lite, CC BY 4.0) and from Cloudflare's live edge metadata, with IPinfo Lite (CC BY-SA 4.0) as a further vote where enabled; IP-to-ASN mapping from iptoasn.com (public domain), Team Cymru and RIPEstat; registry records over RDAP from ARIN, RIPE NCC, APNIC, LACNIC and AFRINIC; the Tor Project's exit list; data center and VPN ranges from the X4BNet lists (MIT) and the official AWS, Google, Oracle, DigitalOcean, Linode, Vultr, Cloudflare and Fastly range feeds; Apple's iCloud Private Relay list; abuse.ch's Feodo Tracker (CC0); and ten DNS blocklists whose operators allow free public queries. The complete list with licenses and refresh intervals is on the methodology page.

Privacy commitment

We do not store the IP addresses of visitors, we do not sell or share data, and we do not use advertising trackers that follow you across sites. Addresses you look up are cached in memory for ten minutes to answer repeated queries and are then gone; leak-test sessions live in memory for ten minutes and are never written to disk. Usage statistics are aggregated by day, country, language and device, never per person. The privacy policy states exactly what is processed and why, in plain language.
