What is my location?
See where your IP address places you — country, region, city and coordinates — and, only if you allow it, your precise location from your device's GPS and Wi-Fi positioning. The two are shown side by side so you can see how far apart they are and understand what websites can learn without asking.

This is what every website can estimate without asking you: the area the address block is associated with, not where you stand.

Your current location
Your IP-based location is shown immediately. Press Use precise location to let the browser ask for your device position; it is displayed on this page only and never sent to our server.
Coordinates (latitude, longitude)
From the device: usually accurate to a few meters outdoors, tens of meters indoors. From the IP: the center of the area the geolocation databases associate with your address block — typically the city center.
Nearest address
The device position is shown on the map; we do not convert it into a street address, because that would require sending your coordinates to a geocoding service. The IP position is never precise enough for an address.
Your location by IP
This is the location every website can estimate without asking, using the same databases the IP location finder compares.
Country, region and city by IP
Country is usually right for fixed-line connections; city is a best estimate that can be off by a city or a region for mobile and VPN users. Each source and its update date is listed; the methodology page explains how the consensus is formed.
GPS location vs IP location
GPS and Wi-Fi positioning answer where this device physically is, with the user's permission, from satellites and a database of nearby access points. IP location answers where this network connection usually appears from, without permission and without sensors. The first is precise and private; the second is coarse and public. A large distance between the two on this page usually means a VPN, a mobile carrier gateway or a geolocation database that is out of date.
How to turn location services on or off
Websites can only read your device position after you allow it, and you can revoke it at any time.
Chrome
Settings › Privacy and security › Site settings › Location: choose whether sites may ask, and see or remove sites you have allowed. The location icon in the address bar changes the setting for the current site.
Safari / iPhone
iPhone: Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Safari Websites. Mac: Safari › Settings › Websites › Location, per site.
Android
Settings › Location to turn positioning on or off for the whole device; in Chrome, Settings › Site settings › Location for websites specifically.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my exact location now?
Press Use precise location on this page and allow the browser to use your device position. The coordinates and the map show where the device is; the IP-based location below it is only an area estimate.
What is my current location?
Without permission, websites only know the area associated with your IP address, shown at the top of this page. With permission, they can read your device's precise position.
Is your IP your current location?
No. It is the location associated with the network you are connected to, which on home broadband is near you and on mobile data or a VPN can be far away.
How can I find the latitude and longitude of my location?
Allow precise location on this page and read the coordinates shown, or open any maps app and long-press your position. From an IP address alone, only the approximate city center coordinates are available.
How do I control location services on my phone?
iPhone: Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services, globally and per app. Android: Settings › Location, with per-app permissions under App permissions. Both let you choose precise or approximate location per app.
Can I see if my IP is being tracked?
Not directly: looking up an address leaves no trace you can see. What you can check is what the address reveals — on this page and the what websites can see about you report — and whether a VPN hides it, with the VPN test.
