How sure is this?
- Lookup-service confidence 0.97 on a 0–1 scale that the country is right: 0.6 with a single voting database (+0.05 per agreeing registry record, at most 0.8); when every voter agrees, 0.75 + 0.1 per voter (+0.02 per agreeing registry record, capped at 0.97); when they disagree, the agreeing share × 0.9; anycast addresses are capped at 0.5. It says nothing about the city.
- An IP address points to an area, never to a street or a building.
Which sources back the consensus: country US confirmed by 5 source(s): IP2Location.io, DB-IP Lite, cloudflare, Prefix allocation country (Team Cymru), Registry country (RIR, via iptoasn); city Columbus from 3 source(s): IP2Location.io, DB-IP Lite, cloudflare
Registry country is where the address block was allocated, not a location; it is shown for comparison only and never votes.

Type or paste an address and press Look up. We accept IPv4 (203.0.113.42), IPv6 (2001:db8::1) and the bracketed or zone-suffixed forms copied from logs. Private and reserved addresses are recognized instantly and explained instead of looked up — there is nothing on the public internet to find for 192.168.1.1.
What an IP lookup shows
A lookup pulls together four different kinds of data, each from a different authority, and labels them accordingly. Geolocation comes from databases that infer a place from routing and registration patterns; the network data comes from the live BGP table; registry data comes from the regional registries (ARIN, RIPE NCC, APNIC, LACNIC, AFRINIC) over RDAP; the risk flags come from published lists. We show them side by side rather than merging them into one confident-looking answer.
Location (country, region, city)
The consensus of the geolocation sources we query, with a confidence value and the distance between the sources' answers. When they disagree we say so. City-level is the best case; for mobile networks and VPN servers the city is often the provider's hub, not the user's. See IP location finder.
ISP and organization
The organization that holds the address block (from the registry) and the operator that announces it (from BGP). They differ when a company rents addresses from a provider, which is common for hosting.
ASN and network range
The autonomous system number announcing the address, the exact prefix (for example 203.0.113.0/24), the registry it was allocated by and the allocation date. ASN lookup shows every prefix of the same operator.
Hostname / PTR
The reverse DNS name, if the operator set one. Hosting providers and ISPs often encode the data center or city in it; a missing PTR is normal for mobile and many home connections.
Proxy, VPN, Tor and hosting flags
Whether the address is a Tor exit (Tor Project list, refreshed hourly), inside a known commercial VPN or data center range (X4BNet lists, the official AWS, Google, Oracle, DigitalOcean, Linode, Vultr, Cloudflare and Fastly feeds), an iCloud Private Relay egress (Apple's list) or listed on a DNS blocklist as an open proxy. Each flag shows its source and when that list was fetched. Run the proxy and VPN checker for the full picture.
Abuse contact
The abuse mailbox published by the registry or by the network operator, for reporting spam or attacks from the address. We show it exactly as published; personal names and phone numbers from registry records are never displayed.
How accurate is IP lookup?
Country is right in the vast majority of cases for fixed-line addresses. City is right often enough to be useful and wrong often enough that you should never rely on it: databases lag behind reassignments, mobile carriers route traffic through a few hubs, VPN and cloud addresses show the server's location, and anycast prefixes are announced from many places at once. That is why every result on this page shows the database build date and, where sources disagree, the spread between them. The methodology page explains how the consensus is calculated and what the confidence value means.
Lookup results explained
Consensus country/city is the value most sources agree on; the confidence drops when sources disagree or when only one source has data. Registry country is where the address block was allocated — it is not geolocation and is shown for comparison only. Type is residential, mobile, business or data center, derived from the ASN and the range lists; it carries its own confidence. Risk level (low, moderate, high, severe) summarizes the flags with a published scoring formula; the reasons are listed one by one so you can judge them yourself.
Frequently asked questions
How do you check an IP address?
Paste the address into the field above and press Look up. Within a second you see its country, region and city estimate, the ISP and organization, the ASN and network range, the reverse DNS name and any proxy, VPN, Tor or blocklist flags, each with its source. To check your own address, just load the page: it is filled in for you.
Can someone hack me if they know my IP address?
Not from the address alone. An IP address identifies a network connection, not an open door; your router or firewall drops unsolicited connections by default (test it with the open port checker). The realistic risks are flooding your connection (DDoS) if you game or stream from a home address, and combining the address with other leaked data. Keep your router updated and use a VPN when you need to hide the address.
How to track IP address?
"Tracking" an IP address means looking up the public information about it: location estimate, provider and network. That is exactly what this page does, and it is as far as anyone outside law enforcement can go — a court order to the provider is needed to identify the subscriber. Tools that promise a live GPS position from an IP address are not telling the truth.
Can two devices have the same IP address?
On the public internet, no: a public address is routed to exactly one network at a time. Inside different private networks, yes: millions of routers use 192.168.1.1, and behind carrier-grade NAT thousands of phones share one public address while each keeps a private one.
What is a public IP address?
A public IP address is one that is routable on the internet and unique worldwide at any moment — the address this site shows you. Private addresses (10.x, 172.16–31.x, 192.168.x) are only valid inside a local network and are translated to the public one by your router.
What is a dynamic IP address?
An address your provider assigns temporarily from a pool. It may change when you reconnect or when the lease expires, which is why a lookup of an address from last month may point at a different customer today.
Can I look up who an IP address belongs to?
You can find the organization that holds the block and the network that announces it — an ISP, a hosting company, a university, a corporation — plus the abuse contact. You cannot find the individual subscriber: registries publish organizations, not customers, and ISPs only disclose subscriber data to authorities.
